We’re Home?

We're Home?

Well, we made it! I never thought we would that’s for sure. So much has happened that I don’t even know where to start. I meant to write each day but as you can see that didn’t happen. Now I have to play catch up…

Day 1: 99 Boxes
Pack day. Oh what fun. Luckily, we didn’t have to do any of it. : ) 2 people were sent over by the moving company to pack us up. Now we had heard horror stories from other families about the packers. “Don’t let them near your valuables, etc..” We took that advice to heart and tried to remove the temptations. Good thing we don’t have a lot of valuable things ; )

Doug and Jennifer were our packers that day and they were pretty nice. Of course when they pulled up and got out completely tattooed with cigarettes dangling, we thought differently. As we talked with them through the day and got to know them however, they were pretty nice. Take Doug for example. He is my age (1 year younger) and has 19 year old twin daughters living in Europe. What!? Yes, as he put it, “I got my old lady pregnant in the 7th grade.” He used stronger language that I wont repeat here. Juli and I just looked at each other and smiled. He seemed pretty proud.

Jennifer was pretty cool too. She even was kind enough to wrap and pack each individual router bit and piece of wood in paper and box it up for me. I mean each piece of wood. If you knew my garage you would know what I am talking about. It was a woodworking shop, I had a lot of little pieces of wood lying around.

When it was all said and done, we had 99 boxes packed up and ready to go.

All in all, it was a good long day. I’m glad I didn’t have to do it.

Day 2: El Señor
Day 2 the moving truck showed up to load up our things and drive them to Salt Lake. There nice hispanic gentlemen showed up and we took a tour of the house to show them what went and what didn’t. The driver, Sergio, also began inventorying our furniture items and bulky stuff that was not put in boxes. After about an hour of that, they began loading. These guys were good. They packed our stuff so efficiently that it was amazing. The best way I can describe it is that it fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Fernando (in the truck) would look at a piece and place it. He would then look at another piece and use it or save it for later. It was absolutely amazing. Having done several “Elder’s Quorum moves”, I thought there was no way they would fit everything in the truck but they did. It was packed top to bottom and literally to the last foot of space.

Almost forgot to add, the guys refered to me as, El Señor. Of course there were some other words they used after El Señor that I don’t think were very nice. It seemed like this happened every time something heavy was lifted. Hmmm…
Of course everything was not as good as I describe it. After they left and the next day as we were cleaning, we open up the hallway closet and lo and behold there is all of our food storage stuffs! Juli was mad at me…

Moving truck

All and all, another good day though. Again, very glad I didn’t have to lift my fridge!

Day 3: Cleaning Day
Not much to say here. A lot of womens working going on. Since I am not a woman, I didn’t have to participate…

Cake day for me! ; )

Day 4: Travel Day
By now, we are all on edge. It’s been a long week and now we have a long drive with 2 cars. We had traveled up to Las Vegas the night before so we wouldn’t have to do it all in one day. Since we really didn’t have to be anywhere on Thursday we decided to take it easy and go eat at a nice buffet that morning before heading out.

Good grief! I practically had to keep Noah’s eyes covered. After eating at the Excalibur hotel, we both felt like we needed a shower to wash the filth off. Vegas really is sin city. Too bad, they have some nice buffets.

Day 5: Unload the Truck
Sergio and crew showed up at around 10:30 am and started unloading the truck. We had come out earlier that morning to see the house. I will write later about our initial impressions and how we feel about being here. Suffice it to say it is a nice place and we will be comfortable as we try and decide what to do.

It was so nice to just stand there and say, “This goes here, that goes there.” Didn’t really have to lift a muscle. Who am I kidding? It was freaking awesome! I just checked off the boxes and items that came off the truck to make sure we got everything. Towards the end of the unload one of the guys decided to go fast to get it done quicker and he had my photo printer on top of a load. As he came down the ramp, the dolly got stuck and it came flying off the top. This is my $500 photo printer! Sheesh, looks like I will be filing a claim on that one.

Juli is yelling at me to go now. (We have been invited to dinner tonight by Juli’s cousin.) So I had better wrap this up. Anyways, we are here now. Finally. It seems like it took forever and happened all too quick at the same time. It doesn’t feel like home yet even though our stuff is here. I suspect it will take some time. I hope not long though because I already miss Arizona and our family and friends.

So I guess, we’re home?

Thanks for the update and the pictures! The house looks cute. Good luck today at your new job. Try not to say any bad words around the General Authorities. I hear they frown on that.
